After graduating from the Faculty of Law, Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung, Sulaiman N. Sembiring started his career as a Public Interest Lawyer at the Indonesian Center for Environmental Law/ICEL Jakarta (1994-1999) and became Program Manager for Policy and Law at WWF-Indonesia (1999-2000). In 2001 he founded and became the First Director of the Natural Resources Law Institute/IHSA. He has also been a legal consultant for the World Bank, ADB, GTZ, CIFOR, USAID, AUSAID and in 2006-2010 was Team Leader
Component-A for the EU FLEGT Support Project in collaboration with National Development Planning Agency and the Ministry of Forestry.
As an Advocate (PERADI) he has handled various Litigation-Non-Litigation cases in the fields of Criminal, Civil and State Administration, including convening at the Indonesian Constitutional Court in election disputes. He had internships at ELAW US (Eugene-Oregon, 1995), WWF-India New Delhi (1997) and Environmental and Human Rights Training in Canberra (1998) is the Main Compiler of the Association of Natural Resources Management Laws (HP3SDA-IHSA) which consists of 26 volumes and 700 regulations (2004) and has written about 10 books in the field of natural resource management and the environment as well as on the management of Satellites by the Banking Industry. He was recorded as student at Stratchclyde University for the LLM Program in the field of Climate Change in Glasgow Scotland UK (2015) and Masters in Law, Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta State Administration, and is currently participating in the Doctoral Program in Law at Sultan Agung Islamic University, Semarang.
